Marathon runners to get free sports massage
Runners taking part in the 2013 Eyam Half Marathon will be able to benefit from free sports massage treatments.
Leading physiotherapy practice Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy will be offering sports massage to competitors before and after the popular annual race, which starts at 10.30am on Sunday 19 May.
Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy sports massage specialists will be on hand to prepare runners as part of their warm-up and also provide treatments to aid recovery at the end of the 13.1 mile course
The Eyam Half Marathon was first held in 1993 and now attracts more than 400 runners every year.
Colin McCurdy, a Sports Massage and Rehabilitation Therapist at Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy, which is based at Virgin Active Health Club, in Sheffield, said: “The Eyam Half Marathon is notoriously one of the toughest half marathons in the racing calendar.
“With lots of hills, it’s a really challenging course which is why it’s so important for runners to prepare their body properly for the race by activating muscles through sports massage. This can also help to help relax tight muscles after a long run by removing any build up of toxins.”
Experts from Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy will also apply Kinesio Tape to half marathon runners for a reduced price of £5. The coloured tape can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, relax muscles, enhance performance and help with rehabilitation as well as supporting muscles during sport.
Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy specialists will be located at the starting line at the Eyam Half Marathon.
