Sports massage to raise funds for cancer charity ‘Run in the Park’

A team of sports massage specialists from Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy are set to help raise vital funds forWeston Park Hospital Cancer Charity by supporting the charity’s annual run.

Leading physiotherapy practice Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy will be offering sports massage to runners before and after the popular annual Run in the Park event.

The run which is held at Graves Park, Sheffield, on Sunday, July 14, will feature a 10k race and a 3k fun run.

Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy sports massage specialists will prepare runners as part of their warm-up and provide treatment to aid recovery at the end of the course for a donation towards the charity.

Michael Lee, specialist physiotherapist at Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy, said: “We are really proud to support Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and hope that we can help raise money towards pioneering cancer research and to help improve the treatments for people living with cancer.”

Weston Park Hospital is one of only four dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK and serves a population of nearly 1.8million people from all across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire.

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity needs to raise £1.5 million this year in order to fund pioneering cancer research and to help improve the treatments and care for people living with cancer.  This includes raising funds for a new Cancer Research and Treatment Suite at the hospital.

Helen Gentle, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity fundraiser, said: “.We are so grateful to Sheffield Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy for joining us at Run in the Park 2013 and offering our dedicated runners this additional specialist service. Entries are still open for our run and we’d love as many people as possible to get involved and support the work of the Cancer Charity.
