Professional skier returns to the slopes with help from Sheffield Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy

An injured skier who competed for Great Britain will take to the slopes again after receiving treatment from Sheffield Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy.

Joe Hides, 21, from Meersbrook, Sheffield, injured his knee whilst competing in the European Cup in Slovenia earlier this year, forcing him to leave his skis behind to focus on rehabilitation.

Uncertain of his future, and desperate to return to competing on the slopes, Joe turned to Dr Michael Lee, from Sheffield Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy.

Joe said: "My dad recommended Michael to me and, as soon as I began receiving treatment, the change was drastic and immediate; I felt stronger and happier.

"I arrived at the clinic thinking that I would eventually need surgery on my knee, but with the treatment I have received at SSMPC, that is looking less and less likely."

Joe, who has been skiing from the age of eight, began competing professionally on the World Cup circuit two years ago.

Now, he has his sights set on competing at the World Cup next year in Switzerland; something he didn't think would be possible due to his injury.

He said: "My recovery has been as quick as I could hope for. Everyone at the clinic has been fantastic.

"Michael is the best physio and strength and conditioning coach I've ever come across. I'm extremely impressed."

Dr Lee, a consultant sports physiotherapist and sports scientist said: "I am delighted that my treatment has taken Joe from a position where he was facing surgery and unable to ski, to being back on the slopes ready to compete again next year."
