Strength and Conditioning here at Sheffield Sports Medicine is more than just lifting weights. For us, strength and conditioning encompasses the entire physiological development of an athlete. We work with your kinesiology, central nervous system and musculoskeletal system. We recognise the importance conditioning whether you want to get the most out of your everyday movements without hurting yourself, or you're a professional athlete wanting to make significant gains in competitions.           

Strength and Conditioning Coach  

Our Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists at Sheffield Sports Medicine use exercise for rehabilitation, sports performance, and injury prevention. They have all achieved qualifications from the UK and the USA with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the UK Strength & Conditioning Association.

Our Strength and Conditioning coaches bridge the gap between the theory of Sport Science and its application to training. We can help you become faster, stronger and more flexible so you can improve your athletic performance and remain injury free.

Our professionals work with individuals to achieve their personal goals. You might want to work with one of our coaches if you:

Many of our coaches have competed at national and international standards themselves and worked in professional sports teams, so you know you are in the hands of experts. As a team, we have experience in football, rugby, swimming, Thai boxing, athletics, and more!

We are passionate about helping you maximise your sport performance.  Our Strength and Conditioning Coaches are extremely personable and excellent teachers. They provide accountability to make sure you stay on top of your goals and are brilliant motivators.  Our experience speaks for itself, we have worked with Olympic Athletes and Premier League Football and Rugby Teams and achieved the very best results.

Strength and Conditioning Program  

You are unique. This is why we don't believe in a one-size fits all strength and conditioning program. Our strength coaches take into account all of your needs and goals and work with you to plan a personalised programme that suits you. We examine your needs and complete a full evaluation based on your chosen sport(s). We then create a program of sequenced exercises and incorporate them into different segments in your program. Each section of your program is specifically planned so that you can reach your goal quickly and safely. The areas that you may want to work on:

Your programme may involve:

  • Teaching you functional movement patterns that will form the basis of an enhanced performance

  • Proper sports specific techniques

  • Strength work to reduce injury risk or recurrence

  • Plyometrics

  • Endurance

  • Core stability

Strength training is essential. However it is just one piece of the jigsaw that is needed to get the best out of an athlete. Your strength and conditioning program may also involve your coach working with you to monitor your overall health as we know from experience that if you aren't eating, sleeping and thinking right, your body will start to break down. If your body breaks down, injuries are likely to occur.
